Helen and I met on the beach playing volleyball six years ago. I was instantly interested in her, as I saw a beautiful girl playing beach volleyball, jumping super high and crushing the ball. She was a indoor player just learning how to play beach, and me a beach volleyball coach. I began to get to know her by setting up days to come out and practice. We began to click, and get to know more about each other beyond looks and spiking power. We had "the awkward high five" while playing coed together, something we both remember and laugh about today. She went for a slight hand grab, while I went textbook high five. The lingering hold of my hand, a fleeting grasp of the textbook pop and draw, definitely caught my attention. My first thought was, "that was weird", but eventually put it together. Always one for awkward situations, I made sure to comment on that high five as soon as it transpired. I laughed, she probably wanted to crawl into a hole, and we finished the game smiling and having fun. A lot of good things have happened since that fateful high five.
